The Finnish Migration Museum
The Finnish Migration Museum explores the movement of people around the world by researching, studying, documenting and displaying information about migration, immigration and emigration. The museum has a wide range of materials and artifacts, such as buildings, furniture, tools, photographs, archival material, literature and art.
Open-air exhibition
The main attraction is the museum’s open-air exhibition area with currently four buildings, all from different countries, Finland, Canada, Australia and Russian Siberia. The buildings are furnished and can be visited inside. They tell the special stories of migrants along with the beautiful originality of each building and its exhibition.
The Finnish Migration Museum was founded in 2006 and is maintained by The Emigration Museum Support Association (Suomen Siirtolaisuusmuseon Tuki ry). The museum’s office is located in the center of Peräseinäjoki in Terästalo with a part of the exhibition and a library. The museum organizes seminars, educational events and other events and occasions.
Memorial of Finnish Emigrants
Located in the Peräseinäjoki cemetery, the Memorial of Finnish Immigrants is intended as the last place for those Finnish immigrants who want to be blessed in an urn in a churchyard in Finland.
The memorial was established by the Finnish Migration Museum in cooperation with the Peräseinäjoki church in 2014. The memorial sculpture was donated by Professor Olavi Koivukangas and it was unveiled in 2016.
The memorial is located along Kirkkotie, approx. 0.5 km from Peräseinäjoki church and more than 1 km from the museum’s open-air exhibition area in the direction of the church.
